Rooppur Nuclear Power PlantAn order has been given to submit to the High Court two investigation reports, by works and housing ministries, over the alleged corruption around Green city housing project in Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
The court has ordered the submission of the reports within one week of resumption after Eid holidays.
The order was given on Monday (May 20), by a joint High Court bench of justices Tariq ul Hakim and Md Shohrowardi.
On May 19, Barrister Sayedul Huq Sumon lodged a writ wanting judicial inquiry into allegations of corruption at Roopur power plant.
An investigation committee has already been formed in this regard though the people do not have trust in it, observed Sumon.
That’s why we wanted a judicial probe, he added.
“Every work must have a certain degree of accountability; the PM is also following a zero tolerance policy in tackling corruption.”
Underlining the project which uses tax paid by the masses, he added: “the writ makes secretaries of works, housing, science and technology and three others the defendants.”
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating allegations that excess money was spent in buying furniture for 110 flats of the Green City housing project at the Rooppur Power Plant in Pabna.
