Jailed BNP chief Khaleda Zia did not lose consciousness as her doctors have claimed, says Attorney General Mahbubey Alam.
“It’s not true that she fainted rather suddenly fell off on the floor as her due to low blood sugar,” he told the media on Sunday, when the court adjourned the hearing of Khaleda’s bail plea an arson case filed in Cumilla.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam. FOCUS BANGLAAccording to him, Khaleda’s personal doctors’ reports aimed at getting sympathy from the court.
Speaking to the media at his office, Alam said, “I got in touch with the IG prisons before attending court. He has informed me that Khaleda’s blood sugar level dropped in the evening of Jun 5. It’s not true that she lost consciousness. A fluctuation in blood sugar is normal for diabetic people of that age."

The state’s top legal officer said he finds links between doctors meeting Khaleda and speaking to the media a day before the court was set to hear bail plea over the Cumilla arson case.
“If Khaleda had fainted then the IS prisons and the civil surgeon should have knowledge of it. They have tried to garner public support. It’s unfortunate if doctors are politically motivated.”
The attorney general said if something like that happened, then it would have been reported in the media the same day. “But that’s not the case. It’s Jun 10. They are trying to pass off misleading information.”
On Sunday, the attorney general sought time from the High Court for placing arguments against Khaleda’s bail petition.
The bench of Justice Md Shawkat Hossain and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman fixed Monday for resuming the hearing on the bail petition.
On Jun 7, Khaleda's lawyer Khandker Mahbub Hossain pleaded the HC to order a Comilla court to expedite the hearing and dispose of the bail petition.
The HC bench adjourned till Sunday (June 10) the hearing on the petition after Attorney General Mahbubey Alam prayed for time for placing arguments against the bail.
The arson case was filed under Special Powers Act 1974 after a bus in Chouddagram Upazila in Cumilla was set ablaze on Feb 2, 2015. The incident claimed seven lives and injured many others.
