Senior Journalist Mahfuz Ullah has passed away while undergoing treatment at Thailland’s Bumrungrad International Hospital.Senior Journalist Mahfuz Ullah, who had been undergoing treatment at Thailand's Bumrungrad International Hospital, has passed away.

He breathed his last at 10am Bangladesh time on Saturday (Apr 27) morning, BNP chief’s media wing member Shamsuddin Didar confirmed quoting Musarrat Humaira Ongona, the eldest daughter of the deceased.

His body is likely to be brought back home on Sunday (Apr 28) or Monday (Apr 29).

On Apr 2, Mahfuz Ullah was admitted to a private hospital in Dhaka after his health condition deteriorated. Later he was airlifted to Thailand’s capital Bangkok.

He was born in Noakhali in 1950, and obtained MA degrees in physics and journalism from Dhaka University (DU). Later he went on to teach at DU’s journalism department.

He also worked at Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata as a ‘China expert’.

He also authored more than 50 books in Bangla and English, other than editing a number of books including the biographies of BNP founder Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia, the mass uprising of 1969, insurgency in Assam, and post-independent Bangladesh.

During his long career Mahfuz Ullah had hosted radio and television shows and was involved with leading Bangla and English dailies.
