Chamber judge freezes HC rule over Jahalam fiasco

On Tuesday (Apr 23), Justice Md Nuruzzaman froze the rule regarding compensation to Jahalam after hearing a petition by the Anti corruption Commission (ACC).
The chamber judge forwarded the matter to the Appellate Division’s full bench
Advocate Kurshid Alam Khan, who represented the graft watchdog, told the media that their petition based on the ground that the High Court bench hearing the matter, does not have jurisdiction to hear such suo moto rules.
“There is a designated bench for hearing ACC's case at the High Court,” he said.
A jute mill worker, Jahalam had been wrongly languishing in jail since February 2016, was released on Febr 4 this year following a High Court (HC) order.
He was arrested in connection with cases filed by the ACC for misappropriation of Sonali Bank money. The HC exonerated him from the charges on Feb 3.
