The students of seven Dhaka University affiliate colleges have called off their protest with an ultimatum. The students of seven Dhaka University affiliate colleges have halted their protest with an ultimatum.
Earlier on Tuesday (Apr 23) the students blocked the Nilkhet-New Market intersection pressing their five-point demand.
They lifted the blockade after 2:30 pm saying that if no announcements are made to end the irregularities including session jams, they would take to the streets again on Wednesday (Apr 24).
The students claim that since the affiliation with DU, their session backlogs have increased, putting the future of thousands of students at risk.
Their demands include:
Publish results of all the departments at the same time within 90 days of the examination.
Reasons for the mass fail must be released and all the exam papers must be reevaluated for the Degree, Honours and Masters exams of all years
An independent administrative building to operate all the seven colleges
DU teachers have to take classes in all the departments of the colleges at least twice a week.
Start crash programs and publish academic calendars in order to end session backlogs.
In their written demands, the students said that Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College, Government Titumir College, Kabi Nazrul Islam College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Government Bangla College were made DU affiliates in 2017 without any prior-planning.
They said that even two years after the affiliation DU authorities have lagged behind in the operations of the colleges.
Moreover, not only do the exams take months to end, the results, which are most often faulty take as many as nine months to be published.
“The DU proctor assured us of meeting our demands,” said Mofizul Islam Hridoy, a management student at Dhaka College.
He added that they had wanted the vice chancellor to make the assurance and they will take to the streets again on Wednesday.
