Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury. The High Court (HC) has ordered the family of the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) student who was run over by a bus on Tuesday (Mar 19) to be compensated with Tk 1 million within one week.
The court also issued a rule asking why Shuprovat Transport authorities (the bus responsible for the accident) shouldn’t be directed to compensate the victim’s family with Tk 500 million.
It also asked why the failure to ensure safety to the general people on the road shouldn’t be declared illegal.
The bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and KM Hafizul Alam gave the order on Wednesday (Mar 20) after hearing a writ on the matter.
Barrister Ruhul Kuddus Kajal lodged the writ on Wednesday after BUP first-year student Abrar Ahmed Chowdhury was killed after being run over by a bus on Tuesday.
Abrar’s death has sparked countrywide protests with students blocking roads and boycotting classes demanding safe roads and capital punishment for the driver.
