‘No VIP will be spared for breaking road regulations’

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mian has warned that cars without fitness will not be permitted on the streets of Dhaka.
He made the comment on Sunday (Mar 17) while inaugurating traffic week that will run till Mar 23.
He said, “Traffic week is being observed to ease traffic jam, ensure proper movement of pedestrians and adherence to traffic laws.”
The capital is seeing wide-scale development work with work for Metro rail narrowing down several roads.
“To bring traffic jams to a tolerable level, we are constantly working and taking initiatives.”
We have identified 150 bus stops and request the bus drivers to pick up/drop passengers from designated spots, he added.
Saying that talking on the mobile while driving is a crime, he added, “If we see anyone talking on the phone then we shall take strict measures.”
He also called on the pedestrians to use foot over-bridge and underpass, zebra crossing.
Addressing the car owners and drivers, the DMP commissioner added, “Please keep your papers in order.”
The commissioner also said that a strategy is being made for the six bus companies operating in the capital.
“Only laws cannot ensure discipline on the roads; the people have to be conscious about the need to adhere to existing road laws.”
The commissioner requested all VIPs to follow traffic rules and refrain from breaking laws.
“Irrespective of a person’s social position, legal action will be taken to ensure discipline on the roads.”
