The schedule for the inauguration of the newly-elected leaders of Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall unions will be finalised on Monday (Mar 18).
“The inauguration details will be decided at the university’s provost committee meeting at 7:30pm on that day,” Proctor AK Golam Rabbani told Bangla Tribune on Sunday (Mar 17).
Ruling Awami League student affiliated Bangladesh Chhatra League nominated Sammilita Shikkharthi Parishad panel swept the DUCSU polls on Mar 11, securing 23 out of 25 positions on the executive committee. The posts the panel did not win were that of vice president and social services secretary.
This is the first time in the history of the Ducsu polls that the ruling party’s student wing bagged most of the posts in the polls.
Nurul Haque Nur, the candidate from quota reformists’ panel Bangladesh Sadharan Chhatra Adhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad (BSCASP), was elected vice president of Ducsu, while Chhatra League candidate Golam Rabbani was elected general secretary.
The polls, however, were marred by allegation of rigging and irregularities.
Speaking on the allegation, Proctor Rabbani said they have asked the candidate to come up with evidence.
“If evidence comes we will look into it,” said Rabbani.
