The police have arrested three men after a video of them mugging in broad daylight in capital Dhaka went viral on social media.
“The mugging incident took place on the first lane on Malibag road on Mar 1,” Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Sabujbag zone Assistant Commissioner (AC) Md Rashed Hossain said during a media briefing on Saturday (Mar 9)
“A CCTV camera on the road captured the video which later went viral social media,” he added.
He said that as they arrested two muggers first, Farhad Fakir and Yusuf Ali after they received the complaint.
Shahjahanpur police later arrested Jashim Matabbor, another of their accomplice.
“These men are professional muggers and robbers. They carry out their activities in Ramna, Malibag, Shahjahanpur and Mogbazar,” AC Hassan said.
“There are around 16 to 17 cases of murder, mugging, robbery and rape against Yusuf Ali,” he added.
On Mar 1, one Monir Hossain was passing through Malibag on a rickshaw when two men stopped him.
They snatched his phone, cash and debit and credit cards in broad daylight. The CCTV footage captured the perpetrators putting away their weapons.
Police were able to arrest them after the footage went viral on Facebook.
