HC fines ex-judge with Tk 5000

Supreme Court of Bangladesh. BANGLATRIBUNE/Sazzad HossainThe High Court has fined Tk 5,000 to former Feni district and sessions judge for not providing protocol to a then HC judge in 2003.

The HC bench of Justice Obaidul Hassan and Justice SM Kuddus Zaman passed the verdict after hearing a suo moto (voluntary) rule issued by a HC bench in 2003.

The court also ordered that failure to pay the fine would lead to Alam spending seven days in jail.

In the judgment, the HC also issued some directives for the district and session judges and the district administrations about providing protocol to the Supreme Court judges when they are on visit.

Justice Syed Amirul Islam, a HC judge went to Feni in 2003 for a visit. As per the warrant of precedent the district and sessions judge is supposed to provide protocol to a judge of the Appellate and HC Divisions when they go out of Dhaka, but the then district and sessions judge Feroz Alam didn’t do so despite being informed of the visit.
