Hefazat-e-Islam chief Ahmed Shafi supported the opponents of moulana Saad and asked his followers to attend a three day Ijtema, starting from Thursday (Feb 14).

Meanwhile, Saad adherents are also preparing to organize a three-day Ijtema.

It’s known that the government tried to create a compromise but repeated discussions for reconciliation failed.

The last meeting, organised by the religion minister, was held on Feb 5 but no progress was made to settle the contention.

Later, separate congregations were declared; anti Saad group will carry out Ijtema on Feb 15 and 16 while proponents of Saad will have theirs on Feb 17 and 18.

Though there will be separate Ijtemas, moulana Saad will not participate.

The anti Saad Ijtema will be held on Feb 15 and 16 led by moulana Jubaer. They will leave the field before evening prayers on Feb 16.

At the same time, pro Saad guests from overseas will be able to stay at the Uttara Haji camp.

Moulana Saad adherents will enter the field from dawn Feb 17.

Pro Saad moulana, Abdullah Monsur, told Bangla Tribune, “We were ready to adhere to the instructions of the government but the opposite side is declaring that their Ijtema will be for three days and therefore, we have asked one more day from the government.

We have also got verbal permission, he added.
