Schedule for DUCSU polls likely by January

The Dhaka University authorities are likely to announce the schedule for the polls to the Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and Hall Students’ Unions in the last week of January.
“We hope to announce it by the next seven to nine days,” Professor SM Mahfuzur Rahman, who has been appointed as the returning officer for the elections, said on Sunday (Jan 20).
Another senior teacher of the university said, on condition of anonymity, that the schedule will be “most probably’ announced next week.
“It’s more or less confirmed that the DUCSU elections will be held within March, but an exact date is yet to be fixed,” he said.
Following the naming of the returning officer, university authorities on Saturday (Jan 19) appointed five professors of as assistant returning officers.
The university authorities have also a formed a seven-member “formulation of code of conduct” committee, with Pro-VC Prof Nasrin Ahmed as convener.
The last DUCSU election was held in 1990.
A Supreme Court order on Jan 6 has made it mandatory to hold the polls.
