Bangladesh General Students Rights Protection Council brings out a protest procession on Dhaka University campus on Sunday (May 13).Protesters who are demanding reform of quota system in civil service have announced a strike sine die, beginning on Monday (May 13) if the government does not issue gazette on quota by Sunday afternoon.
They also called for nationwide boycott of classes at all education institutions across the country.
The announcements came after Bangladesh General Students Rights Protection Council held a brief rally at the Teachers and Students’ Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University on Sunday.
Prior to the rally, protesters brought out a pre-scheduled procession on the campus.
Addressing the rally, Nurul Haque Nur, a joint convener of the council, said, “We responded immediately to the government’s call. But a gazette has not been published by May 7 as it was assured.”
He warned the government of tougher movement, if the official order is not out soon.
Joint-convener Rashed Khan addressed the rally.
Blaming the government of ‘playing tricks’, Joint Convener Rashed Khan said, “The student will take to the streets once again.”
