‘Tight security to ensure safe atmosphere for voters’

DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia. File PhotoDhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Md Asaduzzaman Mia has said police have tightened security measures to keep a conflict-free and festive atmosphere for the voters.
“Besides police, measures were taken in coordination with all other agencies including army, navy, Border Guard Bangladesh, Armed Police Battalion and Anasr, “Mia told the media after visiting the city’s Willes Little Flower School polling centre on Thursday (Dec 28).
The DMP chief said, “Members of all agencies have continued patrolling across the city.”
Detailing DMP’s security arrangements, Mia said, “Four police control rooms have been set up to monitor the overall situation and take necessary actions in 2,113 polling centres across the city.”
These temporary control rooms are located in Mirpur, Abdul Gani Road, Gulshan ad Razarbag police lines.
Citing no specific security threat this time, Mia said, “DMP’s SWAT, Bomb Disposal Unit and dog squad team will remain alert to subdue any possible untoward incident.”
In case any voter fears about security, the DMP chief requested to make calls to 999 or inform the on-duty officers of the respective polling stations.
