A vehicle has caught fire on Dhaka’s Nilkhet intersection, one of the capital’s busiest roads, as it faced a ‘technical glitch.’
The flame caught the car (Dhaka Metro-Ga 13-1880), which appeared to be a sports utility vehicle (SUV) in a video shot by an armature, around 6pm on Monday (Dec 3, fire service control room officer Russell Shikder told Bangla Tribune.
On information, a firefighting unit rushed to the spot and doused the flame.
No causality was reported as the lone rider -- its driver Noor Mohammad managed to escape the fire.
The fire halted the vehicular movement on Dhaka-Mirpur road for a while.
Traffic police removed the fire-damaged vehicle from the road.
According to police, the car is owned by a leader of ruling Awami League’s Dhaka south city unit, whose more detail was unavailable.
“Police took the driver and the car to their custody and handed over them to the owner,” said ASI Nuruzzaman of New Market police.
