London police arrested Nasir Ahmed Shahin from the scene of the attack on the Banglades mission. FACEBOOK/Jakir Ahmed TalukderA court in the UK has found the chief of BNP’s volunteers’ wing in London guilty of the February 2018 attack on the Bangladesh mission.
On Oct 31, a London magistrate convicted Nasir Ahmed Shahin, the president of the local Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal unit, of the attack and slapped a fine of 1,020 pounds, says a statement issued by the Prime Minister Office on Sunday.
Some expatriate BNP leaders and activists demonstrated outside the High Commission of Bangladesh in London on Feb 7, a day before a court in Dhaka sentenced Khaleda to five years in jail for corruption in Zia Orphanage Trust.
Some of the protesters stormed the high commission, vandalised furniture and glass, and dishonoured the portrait of Bangabandhu after smashing the frame and glass cover while submitting a memorandum to the high commissioner.
London Metropolitan Police arrested Shahin at the scene.
Following the attack, the Bangladesh High Commission handed the video footage of BNP activists vandalising its offices to the police.
The trial in the attack kicked off on Oct 16, when Shahin pleaded not guilty, said the PMO statement.
It added that the Hendon Magistrate’s Court in London is expected to give its ruling against the local BNP unit President MA Malique over the same charges.
