Khaled Bin Ahmed, 30, and Md Hizbullah, 22The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two people from Dhaka for on charges disseminating anti-state propaganda on the video-sharing site, YouTube.
Khaled Bin Ahmed, 30, and Md Hizbullah, 22, were held from the city’s Uttara during a raid late on Friday (Oct 5).
Khalid ran a YouTube channel styled ‘SKTV’, where he uploaded footage aired by credible media outlets and distorted them to spread ‘anti-state’ propaganda, RAB told the media on Saturday.
“Khalid was involved with the Islami Chhatra Shibir (Jamaat-e-Islami’s student wing) and has been uploading anti-state propaganda and defamatory rumours against prominent people of the country,” RAB-1 chief Lt Col Sarwar bin Kashem said.
Khalid was responsible for the voice over in the contents while his accomplice Hizbullah downloaded the materials used for those from the internet, he added.
Khalid, whose father is affiliated with the Jamaat-e-Islam, admitted to running the YouTube channel for two years, according to the elite police unit.
The channel which has a large number of subscribers allegedly defames the country by promoting anti-state criticism and spreading derogatory remarks about various state-owned institutions and prominent people, said RAB.
“We have found enough evidence to implicate them but we need to investigate to find out whether any political party were behind it,” said senior RAB officer Kashem.
