A fraud ring has admitted to faking the signature of the health minister, Mohammad Nasim, and several other ministers and sending nurses for overseas training.
For this, they charged Tk. 30.000.
Arrested in a case lodged by former director of Nursing and Midwifery Department, Nasima Parvin, four impostors were arrested by the CID.
A CID official says: “in 2016, the government gave a circular to train nurses through short term courses abroad, to which applications came from all over the country.”
Every year, the government usually sends 10 nurses for training, mostly to Malaysia. After the training, the nurses get Tk. 1 lakh each.
Naturally, the courses are enticing both from monetary and professional perspective.
This was exploited by the swindlers.
The CID also reveals that the ring developed from within the nursing council with one Anisuzzaman, who claimed to have connections with many ministers and top civil servant officials.
They lured nurses, took applications from them, put in the counterfeit signature and then submitted them at the nursing council.
Seeing so many recommendations from ministers and secretaries, the then director, Nasima Parvin, became suspicious and lodged a case at the Sher E Bangla Nagar police station.
The CID got charge of the case on 12 August this year and arrested the persons involved.
CID’s additional police superintendent, Rajib Farhan, told Bangla Tribune: “the arrested used stolen SIM cards to make false ‘recommendation’ telephone calls, claiming to be from the minister’s office.”
The group used to take Tk. 30 thousand from potential candidates and carry out the fraud, said the police officer.
We have found 17 nurses who took training abroad by taking help from fraudsters.
He also said, police are accumulating information about those who took the overseas training by resorting to the fraudsters.
