The DMP announced the week-long initiative on Aug 4 amid student protests demanding safer roads following the death of two teenagers on Jul 29 at bus stop on Dhaka’s Airport Road. The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) says the ongoing Traffic Week has been extended by three days as it fetched a ‘positive response’ from across the country.
“We have extended it to Aug 14 after getting a positive response from the ongoing week-long programme,” DMP Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia told the media on Saturday.
The initiative yielded significant progress in implementing traffic rules, according to him.
“We believe that the drive should continue in order to discipline the runaway traffic situation,” said the DMP boss.
