Number of tigers expected to rise: Expert

Royal Bengal Tiger at Sundarban.Findings of just-concluded latest tiger census are yet to be out, but experts expect the number of the big cat to increase the Sundarbans.
The census started in February through camera trapping under the project titled ‘Tiger Project’ and ended in May.
“The project has ended. The findings will be officially published later,” Research Officer Md Abdullah Al Mujahid told Bangla Tribune.
H said they expect the number to increase this time.
According to the 2015 survey the number of tigers in the Bangladesh part of the Sundarbans declined to 106 from 440 in 2004.
“It will take some time to prepare full report of the census. Rangers are being trained to strengthen monitoring and patrolling system,” said Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department Officer Md Modinul Ahsan.
Sub-forest Conservator of Khulna circle Md Mahbubur Rahman said that this time advanced technology has been introduced to count the big cats.
Bangladesh will observe the 8th Global Tiger Day on Jul 29 this year.
World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is working to promote the "Double Tigers" campaign by 2020.
