Emergency notice issued for Bangladeshi citizens in MaldivesAn emergency notice has been issued for Bangladeshi citizens in Maldives, an official of Bangladesh Embassy in the Maldives have confirmed this to the Bangla Tribune. The alert was issued on Monday (February 5).
The alert came in light of the recent political unrest in the region and asked Bangladeshis based in Maldives to refrain from going anywhere other than their workplaces unless highly necessary. They were also asked not to take part in any political rallies or meetings.
An embassy hotline has been put in place at +9603320859 for emergencies or untoward situations.
On February 5, a 15-day state of emergency was declared at a press conference in the President’s office. Following this, Maldives President Abdulla Yameen ordered the arrest of his estranged half-brother and former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Subsequently, the country’s chief justice and a Supreme Court judge were also arrested.
