The Cabinet has recently sent a proposal to the Road Transport and Highways Division to consider introducing a separate ’emergency lane’ for movement of VIPs, police vehicles, ambulances and vehicles of other emergency services.
Revealing the details of the request after a regular weekly meeting of the Cabinet, Cabinet Secretary Md Shafiul Alam said, “Not for the VIPs, we (Cabinet Division) basically want such a lane for emergency movements of critical patients on ambulances. Besides, fire service and police sometimes require such an emergency lane.”
Denying accusation that the cabinet wanted such a lane for itself, he said: “VIPs are often forced to take the wrong lane which causes immense public sufferings. And the request was made to evaluate if it can be arranged to lessen public sufferings.”
