New Biman chief aims more profit

An additional secretary Mokabbir Hossain, who becomes the first public servant to serve as the Biman`s managing director and chief executive officer, speaking to the media on his first day of joining the office on Wednesday (Sept 18).The new chief of Biman Bangladesh Airlines has amid at making the national flag carrier more profitable.
"I have no agenda except making a profit for Biman," said Managing Director Mokabbir Hossain.
An additional secretary Hossain, who becomes the first public servant to serve as the Biman's managing director and chief executive officer, made the remarks at a media briefing on his first day of joining the office on Wednesday (Sept 18).
Hossain said he "will try to do better business following the [company's] rules and regulations."
"I will leave my footprint from where it [Binam] stands now," he added.
Biman earned a profit of Tk 2.72 billion in 2018-19 fiscal year after incurring a loss of Tk 2.01 billion in 2017-18 fiscal.
The airlines had made a profit of Tk 5.6 billion between 2014-15 fiscal and 2016-17 fiscal after incurring a loss of Tk 12.55 billion between 2009-10 fiscal 2013-14 fiscal.
The civil servant, however, vowed to carry out his duties transparently saying, "I have nothing to hide and seek."

Asked on how he would curb corruption in Biman, Hossain said, "No one is above law.
"Many are receiving punishment and many facing trials on graft charges," he said avoiding to comment on any under-trial issues.
The Biman chief said changes would be made to Biman operations plan in line with the induction of new Boeing aircrafts to its fleet.
Citing security is the foremost issues in aviation, Hossain said steps have been taken to increase the quality of passenger services and make their journey more comfortable.
