“Bangladesh is the 33rd nation, which will have a nuclear power plant. We have a satellite in space and we have graduated to a developing country. No one can stop Bengalis", she said while addressing a civic gathering in Pabna after inaugurating the works for the second unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
After due deliberation and planning, Bangladesh went for nuclear power generation, said Hasina. “We have used Russian technology and the country will stand by us if any issue comes up. Russian President Vladimir Putin has assured me when we spoke the last time.”
Emphasizing the policy of ‘Friendship to all, malice to none’, the prime minister said, “We are taking Bangladesh forward and it will continue. We are now a developing nation and by 2041, will be most developed in South Asia.”
Bangladesh has adopted a specific set of plans until 2021, Hasina said before revealing, “Likewise we do have plans from 2021 to 2041.”
Earlier in the day, the prime minister inaugurated works of the second reactor unit of nuclear power plant.
Flanked by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yury Ivanovich Borisov, she switched on the concrete pouring for the construction.
A special helicopter flew the prime minister to the plant at 11:50am.
Hasina is also scheduled to address a public rally organised by the local Awami League at the Police Lines grounds.
She is set to inaugurate 49 development projects including newly-built Pabna Medical College Building, new building of Pabna Textile Engineering College, newly built Pabna Open University, newly built Pabna Bonomali Institute, newly built residential hotel and faculty of Pabna University of Science and Technology, Ishwardi-Dhalarchar rail line project, Chief judicial magistrate's court building, Bhangura-Naogaon road and regional passport office.
