The government has undertaken a project to provide solar electricity in 26 remote upazilas in three Chittagong Hill Tracts districts, which cannot be connected with the national grid in the next 30 years.
An official of the planning ministry said, the estimated cost is Tk 760 million (over $9 million) for providing solar panel to these upazilas and the government will bear the expenses to complete it by 2019.
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs State Minister Bir Bahadur told Bangla Tribune, when all the country is illuminating with electricity then it is not a good thing that these remote upazilas will be left behind.
We have taken the initiative to electrify the areas through solar power, he said.
