The maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to hoist local cautionary signal number three.
According to a Met Office weather bulletin, deep convection is taking place over North Bay and adjoining areas because of a deep depression over the Bay.
All Fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to come close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice.
One to two feet high wind-driven surge may inundate the low-lying areas of the coastal districts under its influence, the Met Office said in a weather bulletin in the morning.
Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate elsewhere over North Bay.
Areas that are likely to be affected are Cox’s Bazar, Chattogram, Noakhali, Laxmipur, Feni, Chandpur, Barguna, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barishal, Pirojpur, Jhalakati, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands.
