All trains leaving Kamlapur were crowded and many could not reach the destination on time. Most trains left the station late with those for north Bengal facing three to five-hour delay.
Rail minister Nurul Islam Sujon, has said: “until the Bangabandhu Bridge is double lane, there will be some suffering.”
Dhumketu, the Rajshahi bound train was supposed to leave Kamlapur at six but it came to the station after 10:15 am. It finally left at 11 am.
Rangpur Express was supposed to leave at 9 am but the train was no were to be seen at 12 pm.
The train towards Dinajpur-Panchagarh was supposed to leave at 10 am but it left at 11 am.
The platforms are overcrowded and there is so much pressure that trains are filled to the brim.
People are also travelling on the train roof. A passenger of Rangpur Express, Sabina Akhter, says: “I came to the station at 9 and even at 12 noon we do not know the possible time for departure.”
Around 11:30 am, rail minister Nurul Islam Sujon came to visit the station. He said: “until the double lane on the Bangabandhu Bridge is complete, there will be predicaments. And for that, we have to wait till 2013. If trains are increased instead of lanes, the suffering will double as delays will rise.”
