Bangladesh Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen sought support from member states of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in resolving the crisis of forcibly displaced Rohingyas, who fled Myanmar to Bangladesh.
He made the call on Thursday (May 30) addressing the OIC Council Ministers (CFM) preparatory to 14th Islamic Summit of the OIC in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah, reports BSS.
Momen urged to address the matter of Rohingya repatriation and for ensuring accountability and justice for gross human rights violations and crimes against them in Myanmar.
The foreign minister also stressed that the Muslim nations should be able to resolve their own issues within OIC and proposed a new platform for the Ulema to work together to counter extremism and terrorism, the state owned media agency said citing a statement.
On the sidelines, Momen attended the AdHoc Ministerial Committee Meeting dealing with the Banjul process of accountability and justice for Rohingya.
Besides, the foreign minister held meetings with his counterparts from Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei and Maldives.
