Housing and Public Works Minister, SM Rezaul Karim, has called the death of people in the fire incident at FR Tower in Banani a murder.

Saying that an investigation committee is working on the matter, he said, “We will publish the report for everyone to see.”

This is murder and we will take very strict action against those responsible, he added.

A six member investigation committee has been formed from the ministry with another committee formed by city development authority, RAJUK; both will give reports, said the minister.

The building plan passed in 1996 mentioned 18 floors, whereas in 2005, it was found that 23 floors were constructed.

“The building was raised in contravention to the main design plan.”

We shall take measures against buildings which have flouted approved floor specifications, the minister observed.

“The engineer who is linked with the construction of FR Tower will have his/her licence revoked.”

In addition, a case will be lodged against that person; if needed, the building will be demolished, the minister added.

In the recent accident, 25 persons perished with 24 bodies handed over to relatives.
