PID/File PhotoPrime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed to reduce the rate of damage in all kinds of development works.
”No development activity should harm the people, as developmental work, itself, is a means of enhancing their welfare,” the PM said.
Her remarks came Thursday (Mar 21), from the presentation ceremony of the Moheshkhali-Matarbari coordinated infrastructure development project at the PM’s Office.
Sheikh Hasina also instructed the officials concerned to pay the people, whose lands are acquired for the development work, in due time.
PM’s speech writer Md Nazrul Islam briefed the media after the meeting.
Quoting the PM, Islam said, “The Moheshkhali-Matarbari concerted infrastructure development project will play a significant role in the entire country’s economy.
“Once, Cox’s Bazar had nothing apart from salt and betel-leaf cultivation projects. Its evolution into a tourist attraction was possible because of its inhabitants’ concurrence,” he added.
“The government is advancing with an elaborate economic plan that is centered on Moheshkhali, Cox’s Bazar. Building a 1200 megawatt power plant and a deep seaport with Japan’s assistance is also a part of this plan,” Islam quoted the PM.
Sheikh Hasina also talked about the Rohingya issue and making the refugees return to Myanmar in the meeting, where the cabinet members, secretaries of the PM’s office and the project-affiliated Japanese officials were also present.
