no BCL candidates would have won if the election were fair, says DUCSU VP-elect Nurul Haque Nur.Blaming the Dhaka University authorities of ‘staging a premeditated election’, vice president-elect of the Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) Nurul Haque Nur demanded fresh polls to 23 posts.

His call came on Tuesday (Mar 12), a day after the polls, from a demonstration by all the student panels, except for the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL).
“The ruling party’s student front [BCL] had resorted to all kinds of irregularities and rigging [to ensure its candidates’ win]. They may have not succeeded to stop me [from getting elected], but that’s not the case for others,” he said demanding re-election to all DUCSU posts, except for vice-president and social services secretary.
According to him, no BCL candidate would have won if the election were fair.
“The students would have rejected them in the ballots. And it’s evident as independent candidates won in the residential hall unions of Sufia Kamal, Kuwait Maitree and Shamsunnahar,” said Nur.
He claimed of being assaulted by BCL activists on polls day when stashes of ballots were found at the Begum Ruqayyah Hall.
“BCL central unit president and general secretary were among those who attacked me,” he said before warning the pro-ruling party student front of dire consequences.
Despite the discovery of filled ballots outside the polling booths, the university authorities did not initiate any action, Nur said.
“Cases have been started to stop us. The BCL sued us and university authority is with them,” he added.
