The High Court has dismissed the writ challenging the legality of the oath taken by the new parliament without dissolving the previous parliament.
The order was given by justices Mainul Islam Chowdhury and Ashraful Kamal.
At the court, barristers AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Sakib Mahmud were present on behalf of the writ while state was represented by Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and Additional Attorney General Murad Reza.
Previously, a notice was given to speaker of the parliament, CEC and cabinet secretary highlighting the 123 (3) clause of constitution which mentions that taking oath of new parliament without dissolving the old one is in contravention to constitution.
Since there was no response from the notice, a writ was lodged by BNP Joint Secretary General AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon.
