Padma Bridge becomes visible with the installation of the first span at the Jajira point in ShariatpurThe work of 20 pillars of Padma Bridge has been completed through six pilings though complication rose in pillars 6 and 7. As a result, the design was changed and these two pillars will be constructed after seven pilings.

Near Maoa, the Padma Bridge will soon appear in form. The two pillars faced problems due to softness of underwater ground. At the Jazira point of the bridge, 750 metres has become visible with the establishment of five spans.

Executive engineer of the bridge, Dewan Abdul Kader, said: “pillars 6 and 7 will be constructed by using state of the art technology.”

At the Maoa end, work for pillars 2,3,4 and 5 has been completed with pile caps placed. Spans can also be placed but is being delayed for the unfinished work of pillars 6 and 7.

The first span was placed on pillar 37 on 30 September last and the work of nearby pillars 36, 35 and 34 are also over. Work for 10 pillars is going on simultaneously.

Transport and bridges minister said, “As per condition, spans will come from China and work has to be carried out taking into consideration the state of the river and the weather.”
