Candidates boycott polls in 29 constituencies. File PhotoCandidates from at least 42 constituencies have boycotted the election on Sunday (Dec 30).
These constituencies include: Sherpur 2 and 3, Jamalpur 2 and 3, Jashore 1 and 5, Mymensingh 3,5 6, and 11, Rajbari 1 and 2, Gazipur 5, Gaibandha, 1,4 and 5, Joypurhat 1 and 2, Natore 1, 2, and 3, Nilphamari 2 and 3, Khulna 3, 4, 5, and 6 Kishoreganj 1and 3.
All candidates, who were members of Jammat-e-Islami, pulled out of the race.
In Satkhira 4 constituencies, Jamaat’s Gazi Nazrul Islam, who vied with “Paddy sheaf”, boycotted the polls around 12:30pm on the allegation of ‘vote rigging’.
In Jashore 4 constituencies, Jatiya Party candidate Md Jahurul Haque boycotted the polls race on the allegation of ‘stuffing ballots’ on the previous night of the voting day.
Haque also demanded voting be postponed at his seat.
