Jamaat-e-IslamiBanned political party Jamaat-e-Islami has boycotted the 11th National Parliamentary Elections which is underway, saying that the elections are one sided.
The 22 Jamaat candidates, who are contesting with ‘paddy sheaf’ and 4 independent candidates have boycotted the polls that started on Sunday (Dec 30) at 8 am, said the party’s Secretary General Dr Shafiqur Rahman in a media statement.
In the statement, he said, “A one sided election cannot be accepted under any circumstances. Hence all Jamaat leaders contesting with ‘paddy sheaf’ are boycotting the polls.”
The senior Jamaat leader complained that it became very clear since the polls schedule was announced that the government has mapped out everything in order to control the elections.
He claimed that voters and general people were being attacked at the polling stations and that several candidates have been severely injured.
“Forget about exercising their voting rights, the people are not even safe,” he said, adding, for all intents and purposes this election is nothing but a farce to hoodwink the nation.
