Curtain falls on electioneering: Wait for vote begins

The 11th Parliamentary election is slated for Dec 30.The curtain fell on the campaign for the 11th National Parliamentary Election on Friday morning and the wait for voting begins.

The candidates and voters are eagerly waiting to cast their franchises which will begin on Sunday morning (Dec 30).

The voting in Sunday’s election will start at 8am and continue till 4pm without any break. People will elect a new government for next five years with new hopes and expectations.

The Election Commission has already taken all sorts of preparations to hold the upcoming elections. All the election materials have already sent to returning officer's offices and it will be reached at the polls stations on Saturday morning.

Though there is expectation to hold a celebratory election with the participation of all parties, there is fear of violence and unrest.

Political parties and alliances are accusing one another for the rising violence.

At this election, 39 registered parties including Awami League and BNP, the two biggest parties in the country, are taking part. Most of the other small parties are one way or other tagged with the two big ones, but only Islami Andolan, under the symbol of 'hand fan', will be competing in 292 of 300 seats.
Over 1800 candidates will compete of which nearly 50 are independent, for near about 105 million voters.
Around 700,000 officials will be engaged in polls, more than 500,000 million law enforcers will be on the field, from 28 December motorcycle movement will be restricted and from 29 December, highways and waterways will be shut.
