Candidates in the 11th national election can only use their and the party chief’s pictures on campaign materials for the voting slated for Dec 30.
The Election Commission’s instructions came in letters forwarded to the 39 registered political parties on Wednesday (Dec 19).
The letter cited the provision of the Representation of the People’s Order (RPO) and the electoral code of conduct.
The EC’s instruction means that the parties in the Jatiya Oikya Front alliance will not be able to use BNP chief Khaleda Zia’s picture on their campaign materials while Awami League allies in the coalitions it leads can’t use Sheikh Hasina’s pictures.
“The letters said that the RPO stipulates that independent candidates can only use their pictures and polls logos on campaign material while aspirants running on a party ticket can use party chief’s picture,” EC Additional Secretary Mokhlesure Rahman told Bangla Tribune.
