The government has relaxed the driving licence restriction allowing the drivers with permits for mid weight vehicles to run heavy vehicles.

It has also given permission to the drivers with permits for light vehicles to drive mid weight vehicles.

The Bangladesh Road Transport Authorities, in a circular available on its website, said the move was taken “in the public interest amid the shortage of drivers and to keep the movement of passenger and good-laden carrying vehicles normal.”

On Aug 18, Bangla Tribune ran a report titled “Amidst driver crisis, govt launches initiative to upgrade valid licences.”

Professional drivers with permits for light vehicles can apply for mid weight vehicle permit while drivers with permits for midweight vehicles can file for heavy vehicle’s permit. In both the cases, at least one year of experience will be required, according to the circular, which was published on Monday (Aug 27).

Relaxation on the driving permit, however, will remain effective till Dec 31, 2018 with no change to others rules and regulation in the transport sector.
