A person branded drug peddler by the law enforcers was killed in a ‘shootout’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Baraigram Upazila on Tuesday night.
The victim was identified as Kabil, 45, who was named in 12 cases with police.
Acting on a tip-off, RAB members took position near Mahishbhanga Community Clinic around 11:15pm. RAB team ordered a group of suspected drug dealers to surrender, said RAB-5 Company Commander Shibly Mostafa.
Following the order, the group opened fire on the elite force, forcing them to fire back in self-defence, he added.
After exchange of fire, the RAB recovered the bullet-hit body of Kabil and took him to the Upazila hospital where he was declared dead.
The cracking force also found a foreign made pistol and 280 tablets of contraband Yaba from the scene.
