Two people have been killed after a fish-laden pickup van plunged into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Cumilla district.
The incident occurred in Korpai area under Burichang Upazila of the district early on Wednesday (Nov 13), said police.
One of the deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Syed Hussain, a fish merchant by profession.
The van’s helper also died in the accident. His identity is not known yet.
Mainamati Highway police OC Alamgir Hossain said: “Upon receiving the information, we went to the scene and found two people dead on the spot.”
"Later, the bodies were sent to a local hospital for autopsy."
Police have seized the van after the incident. However, the driver fled the scene, the OC added.
