At least 17 people have been reported missing after a fishing trawler capsized in the Bay of Bengal off the coast in Barguna.
The incident took place around 8am on Saturday, said local fishing trawler owner’s association.
“We have reported to the authorities on the capsize of FB Tariqul. 17 fishermen are missing. We have opened a rescue operation,” the association president Golam Mostafa Chowdhury said.
Local Coast Guard unit’s chief Sub Lt Johurul said, “The Mongla Coast Guard unit is in charge of the area where the incident happened. We have informed them.”
