In September, over 3573 metric tonnes of onions were imported from Myanmar through the Teknaf land port. Traders have said that a few thousand metric tonnes of onions will reach the land port in two-three days. While the onions are entering the country, the price in the market is still high.
From Monday (Sept 30) morning till afternoon, over 352 metric tonnes of onions came from Myanmar and trucks filled with onions left the port.
Land port source says that till Monday, over 3573 metric tonnes were imported which has price of Tk 155.52 million.
Importers say that in Myanmar, each kg of onion is Tk 43 and an additional Tk 5 is added for it to reach Chattogram.
There are several ships laden with onions on the way, said a few traders.
Several traders allege that since a syndicate is controlling the price, the import has had no impact on market rates.
