As many as 28 bottles liquor have been recovered from the Padma River after fishermen in Pabna reported to police when their net fetched a plastic barrel.
The incident was reported on Sunday (Sept 22) from Goalia Bazar in the northern district's Sujanagar Upazila, police said.
Sujanagar police Inspector Hadiul Islam said fishermen informed police after they netted a barrel while catching fishes in the river.
Later, forces from the local police went to the spot and found 28 bottles of liquor inside the barrel along with a mobile phone.
Police said they suspect smugglers have been using the river to run liquors inside the country.
