TCB buying 100 tonne of onions from Hili port

Thirty metric tonne of onions were delivered to TCB’s main office on Saturday (Sept 21).The Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) is buying 100 tonne of onions from Hili land port in Dinajpur.
Thirty metric tonne of onions were delivered to TCB’s main office on Saturday (Sept 21).
The organisation will supply the onions to stabilize the market, said TCB director, Main Uddin Ahmed.
On Saturday morning, a TCB team led by Brig Gen Hassan Jahangir came to visit the port and toured the warehouses of Shotota Banijyalaya and Messrs. Khan Traders from whom TCB is buying onions.
During the tour, the team inspected the onions and talked to the importers.
Director of TCB, Main Uddin, said: “Due to the rise of the price of onions, we have started to sell onions at Tk 45 per kg. We have also taken the plan to sell onions at different places of the country.”
President of the Hili import-export group, Harun ur Rashid, said: “The import of onions from India is going on but in India there is an onion crisis due to floods, which spiked the price.”
Harun ur Rashid said that TCB recently called tenders to buy onions and three importers took part in the process from which, two informed of selling onions at Tk 62.
TCB has decided to buy the onions at these rates.
