Police gun barrelA suspected drug trader was killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Beguntal area around 5am of Tangail early Friday.
The victim was identified as Afzal Hossain, 35, said Company Commander of RAB-12 Major Robiul Islam.
Tipped off, a group of ‘drug peddlers’ were handing over a shipment of drugs, a team of the elite force was dispatched to the area.
Sensing the presence of RAB, the group of ‘drug dealers’ opened fire and compelled the lawmen to retaliate with fire for self-defence, said Robiul Islam.
RAB, following the skirmish, found Afzal’s bullet-hit body from the spot and took him to the Tangail General Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
Afzal was accused in number of narcotics cases, the RAB officer added.
The cracking law enforcement force claimed to have recovered 1,042 pieces of contraband Yaba pills, 200 bottles of Phensidyl and a foreign made pistol from the site.
