Passengers were seen lining up at the ticket counters for launches and speedboats early on Friday (Aug 16) morning.
In order to avoid accidents, passengers are crossing the Padma River on ferries.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Association (BIWTA), police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Ansar, district and upazila administration are working around the clock to handle the massive pressure of transport and passengers.
“People of 21 districts in the southern region use the Kathalbari-Shimulia route,” said Kathalbari ferry terminal Manager Md Salam Hossain said.
He added that 21 ferries, 89 launches, and more than 150 speedboats have been prepared in order to make the return journey easier.
Hossain said that the entire terminal is under CCTV surveillance and over 300 law enforcers were working to ensure that everything goes smoothly.
