Rifat murder: One suspect confesses, another remanded

Shahnewaj Rifat Sharif FILE PHOTOOne of the key accused in the Rifat Sharif murder case has confessed before a court, while another was taken in by police on a 5-day remand.
Rafiul Islam Rabbi, an accused, gave confessional statement under section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before Judge Md Sirajul Islam Gazi, at the senior judicial magistrate court, on Wednesday (Jul 10).
Additionally, another accused, “TikTok Hridoy” was put on an additional 5-day remand, for the second time.
Humayun Kabir, inspector (investigations) at Barguna Sadar police station and investigating officer of the case, confirmed this to Dhaka Tribune.
Meanwhile, the law enforcers arrested 11 people in connection with the sensational Rifat Sharif murder.
Prime accused Sabbir Ahmed alias Nayan Bond was killed in a reported gunfight with police on Jul 2.
Six people, including three named in the first information report, gave statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure confessing to their role in the murder.
Rifat Sharif, 22, was hacked to death by criminals, in front of his wife Ayesha Siddiqua Minni, in broad daylight in the district town on June 26. The incident sparked outrage across the country.
Father of the deceased filed a case with the Sadar police in this connection on Jun 27.
