A man has been arrested at Brahmanbaria for allegedly raping his sister in law and then killing her.
Police arrested 27-year-old Nayeem from the Barhmanbaria Sadar in the early hours of Saturday (Jun 22). Following his arrest, his father, 50-year-old Basu Mia allegedly hanged himself later in the day.
Additional Superintendent of Police of Brahmanbaria (Sadar circle) Rezaul said that police recovered the body of Neyeem’s sister-in-law Tamanna Akhter from his home on Thursday (Jun 20).
According to his wife Sriti Akhter, both Nayeem and his father worked as a night guard.
“Nayeem asked Tamanna to visit our house on the 19th,” she said and added that he didn’t go to work that night with his father saying that he will be going to Dhaka the next day.
Sriti said that her husband fed their daughter some juice which she drank as well and lost consciousness.
She added that when she woke she found Tamanna’s body which was covered in blood and Nayeem fled.
Meanwhile, his father Basu Mia went to his cousin’s house at Gosaipur on Friday (Jun 21). Police recovered his body hanging from a tree the next day.
Nabinagar police Sub Inspector Rony said that they suspect Basu Mia killed himself out of shame for his son’s misdeed.
