At least five people have been killed and 15 others injured when a bus went off from the road on the Khulna-Satkhira highway, police said.
The incident was reported Thursday from Khulna’s Dumuria Upazila.
Identity of three of the deceased was immediately available. They are Shahinul Gazi, 40, of Kalna, Shariful Islam, 40, and Mostafa Gazi, 35. All of them hailed from Khulna’s Koyra Upazila.
Dumuria police OC Habil Hasan said, “A Khulna-bound passenger bus of Moumita Paribahan, coming from Koyra Upazila, fell into a road side ditch and overturned in Baratia area.”
Police along with the locals launched a rescue operation when five bodies were pulled out from the bus.
Later, the fire service personnel joined the rescue works.
At least 15 people have been taken to hospitals in Dumuria and Chuknagar Upazilas from the scene.
The bodies have been taken to the Khulna Medical College Hospital.
