About 40,000 Rohigya orphans facing high risks in camps have been identified but, there are allegations that some children have been left out and not included in government or NGO orphans’ list, which is prepared to give them proper care.

Myanmar forces killed parents of Falikha Begum, a five year old child, who is now staying with Hamida Begum.

“She cannot even remember the name of her parents,” said Hamida.

Hamida made her escape from Rakihine after Aug 25 and while she was passing through a burning village, a man rushed to her and gave the child saying, “Both of her parents were killed.”

Since then Falikha lives with her and called Hamida ‘mother’.

Her nephew Faysal, a three-year old boy who lost his father, also lives with Hamida.

Hamida alleged that Falikha and Faysal are not included in government or NGO list and they don’t receive any help for them.

“We are staying in this camp for the last 10 months but we did not receive any aid for these orphans. We live on the ration I get every month,” she said.

International Organisation for Migration, Brac, Mukti and other NGOs have set up schools and other amenities for the 40,000 orphans but Falikha and Faysal don’t have the access to those facilities as they are not included in any list.

Ukhia Upazila Nirbahi officer Md Nikaruzzaman said he is not aware of it but, he would find out why their names were not included in the list.

According to a government statistics, out of 40,000 orphans, 8,391 children lost both of their parents and with the help of Unicef, a project has been undertaken to provide them family support for their upbringing.

The government has plans to find at least 9,000 foster homes for these most vulnerable children and and each family will get Tk 2,000 every month.

50 such children have already been found foster homes and out of them, parents of about 40 children are killed and the rest were still missing.
